Abstract
Education--Philosophy.
Description
This anthology is intended for use in historical, philosophical, and social foundations courses in education. It can also be used as a supplement in almost any other education course in which the instructor wishes to acquaint his students with some of the books pertinent to education in the twentieth century. Together, the nine selections included in this book constitute an interdisciplinary approach: the practice of teaching (Holt, Goodman and Silberman), the teaching profession (Conant), philosophy (Dewey and Whitehead), psychology (Erikson and Rogers), and curriculum (Bruner). Each selection is introduced by the editors, placing the author's viewpoints in perspective, summarizing the content of the book and helping the reader understand the importance of the book.
